Parking a bit further from the main lot on the west side of hwy 40.Starting up the trail in pleasant forest.A steep but obvious trail through light forest.A steep but obvious trail through light forest.The right hand fork is easier but is loose scree on hard pan dirt and slab.The left fork option leads to moderately exposed slabs and ridges.West Baldy (L), Mary Barclays and Twin Towers (R).The ridge is quite loose in places.Looking NW off the ridge over Barrier Lake towards Yates Mountain.The moderate ridge at left with the summit rising above. West Baldy at center.It's not as hard as it looks.The down climb is a bit exposed and the rock here has worn slick from so many feet.Continuing up the ridge.Continuing up the ridge.Looking back down the ridge - the down climb obvious at center.Easier terrain with the summit visible.The trail leads around the right (south) side of the cliffs.The approach at right with a cairn marking the cliff traverse at left, West Baldy at center.Back on the main trail and heading for the summit block.Views back along the exposed cliff traverse.
